![]() Watching videos doesnt give you the hands on experience. Just messing around to see what different controls do is probably the best way to learn. It's too late for most of us here and we have succumbed to the call of the slutz. I can map my MIDI controller at the moment but it still doesn't feel the same. I have the Rave Generator 2 VST for Logic and it has all the old school rave stabs that I like, are synths like the one's mentioned capable of producing sounds like this too? The music that I will be wanting to create is Oldschool Rave and Acid House, Trance (think tracks like "carte blanche" by Veracocha and "Adagio for Strings" Ferry Corsten remix), Drum and Bass and Jungle. I've been leaning more towards the Roland as I subscribe to the Roland cloud and thought it might integrate well, but at the end of the day being able to create the right sound is most important. Second question is that I would at some stage like a hardware synth as I much prefer the hands on approach and wondered what people would recommend? Ideally I'd like a 61 key synth and have been looking (online) at the Roland Jupiter X, Dave Smith Prophet 16 voice, and the Korg Prologue 16 voice. I've seen some good videos for alchemy, but not so many for hardware synths. Is it just a case of knuckling down and reading the manual, or is there a more enjoyable/easier way? (manuals aren't always the easiest to understand). My first question is, what's the best way to come from understanding the fundamentals of synthesis to actually using a synth? I can play about with the settings and see what effect it has but I don't really understand what I'm doing, how to route to different modules etc, or how to use the sequencers (if they have one). ![]() My issue is that from watching said videos I think OK I get it (to a degree) and then head off to a synthesizer and have no idea where to start. I have been learning the principles of Synthesis from various youtube videos and website and have kind of got my head around a lot of the theory. OK to put you in the picture I am a novice with both Logic Pro X, and synthesis.
